Thursday, January 17th

Here's what happened today: 

Social 8A and 8C- Today, we discussed the exchange of goods during the Renaissance. We also worked on a map showing which nations controlled Africa and Asia during the Age of Exploration. Explorer research due tomorrow; map due Monday. 
Chapter 3 Assessment: Wednesday, January 23rd. 
Financial Roller-coaster CE due Tuesday, January 22nd

Social 8G - Today, we talked about the Treaty of Tordesillas. Finish your explorer research for Friday!

Social 9B - Today, we learned about the 3 groups that have collective rights in Canada: Aboriginal Peoples (First Nations, Inuit); Francophones; and Metis.

Here's what we did today:  LA 8B  -  Today, we showcased our Genius Hour projects to the class. We completed a self-reflection on how we felt we did. We also started a research assignment (in pairs) for the novel we will start after Spring Break, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. LA 8E -   Today, we had our free reading block in the library and also spent a block working on our Genius Hour assignments. Please make sure they are complete for Tuesday. *You will NOT have class time on Monday. Social 9A  - Today, we completed a formative quiz on economics and started a case study assignment about the Canadian entertainment industry (On Google Classroom - due Monday).  Chapter 6 assessment - Wednesday, March 21st Italy's Election CE due MONDAY!    *Don't forget about Homeroom Wars on March 21st! Wednesday, May 22nd

Here's what happened today:  Social 8A and 8C:  Today, we read about how Japan responded to all the pressure to open their borders. Please review pages 177-179 if needed.  Social 8G:  Today, we talked about the strict roles in Japanese society, including the samurai code of Bushido.  Social  9B:  Today, we continued watching the documentary film, Sicko, which presents some of the differences between public and private health care systems.  All Students: WEM Activity Day Permission Forms are now on Powerschool. Please fill out ASAP to ensure a spot!  Important Dates Coming Up: Friday, May 31st - Activity Day @ WEM Wednesday, June 5th - Early Dismissal and ALL CE DUE
