Here's what happened today: 

Social 8A and 8C: Today, we read about how Japan began to modernize, including the impact of the Iwakura mission. Please review pages 184-187 if needed. 
Chapter 5 assessment: Monday, June 3rd 

Social 8G: Today, we finished chapter 13 and read about Japan's first contact with western countries. Chapter 13 assessment is on Wednesday. 

Social 9B: Today, we wrote a paragraph about which healthcare system we think is better: private versus public. We also spent some time looking at political party platforms. Please review pages 286-287 if needed.

Wednesday, June 5th - Early Dismissal and ALL CE DUE

TGI... Friday, March 16th

Here's what we did today:  LA 8B  -  Today, we showcased our Genius Hour projects to the class. We completed a self-reflection on how we felt we did. We also started a research assignment (in pairs) for the novel we will start after Spring Break, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. LA 8E -   Today, we had our free reading block in the library and also spent a block working on our Genius Hour assignments. Please make sure they are complete for Tuesday. *You will NOT have class time on Monday. Social 9A  - Today, we completed a formative quiz on economics and started a case study assignment about the Canadian entertainment industry (On Google Classroom - due Monday).  Chapter 6 assessment - Wednesday, March 21st Italy's Election CE due MONDAY!    *Don't forget about Homeroom Wars on March 21st! Wednesday, May 22nd

Here's what happened today:  Social 8A and 8C:  Today, we read about how Japan responded to all the pressure to open their borders. Please review pages 177-179 if needed.  Social 8G:  Today, we talked about the strict roles in Japanese society, including the samurai code of Bushido.  Social  9B:  Today, we continued watching the documentary film, Sicko, which presents some of the differences between public and private health care systems.  All Students: WEM Activity Day Permission Forms are now on Powerschool.
